在當天舉行的2017浦江創新論壇“物聯網與全球制造”分論壇上，來自中國、德國、韓國的專家共同探討全球制造業變革的主要趨勢，數字化、網絡化、智能化成為他們口中的“關鍵詞”。

屈賢明指出，新一代信息技術的迅猛發展，及其與制造業的深度融合，使數字化、網絡化、智能化制造的發展勢不可擋，智能制造已成為各國競爭的焦點。
他強調，中國智能制造的關鍵之一是要發展國產的智能制造裝備，包括高檔數控機床與機器人等等，“如果這個問題不解決，就可能出現‘國外機器上崗、中國工人下崗’的悲劇。”

目前，各個國家都紛紛“出招”以求搶占“智能制造”高地。論壇上，德國蒂森克虜伯集團公司全球首席技術官Reinhold Achatz介紹了德國企業轉型之路，指出德國企業要在迎合數字化的趨勢和過程當中，打造新的競爭實力，“比如，我們會通過網絡把信息傳輸給供應商，美國和歐洲的供應商接到單子之后將在第一時間獲取所需原料進行生產，從而大大縮減整個設計和生產的流程。”
韓國科學技術研究院研究生院院長Jae-Min Hong指出，盡管對于建設“智能工廠”尚有爭議，韓國已投資了很多智能化項目來為未來的高端制造浪潮做準備。

同濟大學中德工程學院副院長陳明指出，2008年金融危機以后，各個國家都在反思：沒有實體經濟，發展是不可持續的；因此發達國家紛紛出爐戰略，美國重振制造業、德國聚焦工業4.0，全球制造業格局面臨重大調整。
他認為，中國制造2025的提出非常有必要，“從發展的角度，中國已成為世界制造大國，但我們一直清楚地認識到，中國不是制造強國，要變成制造強國，中國制造2025的提出是第一步。”
